State Representative Kay Hatcher is once again hosting a 50th District Senior Spelling Bee to test local seniors’ spelling skills. The event will be Friday, July 27th in Sugar Grove, just prior to the community’s famous Corn Boil opening ceremonies.
“Kids aren’t the only ones who should be able to show off their spelling talents,” said Representative Hatcher. “This is the third spelling bee I’ve hosted, and each one gets more competitive. It provides a forum for Fox Valley mature adults to show off their abilities, keep their spelling skills sharp, and also to have some fun.”
Hatcher said the local Senior Spelling Bee is open to everyone 50 and better who lives in the 50th House District which includes parts of Kane, Kendall and La Salle Counties. The event will begin at 1 p.m. at the Sugar Grove Community Center, located at 141 Main Street in Sugar Grove. Those wishing to participate need to pre-register with her office by July 20th.
“There will be plenty of fun and prizes,” Hatcher said. “Some participants even bring their own cheering sections.”
A list of some, but not all of the words contestants will be asked to spell is posted on Representative Hatcher’s constituent website www.hatcher.ilhousegop.org. Participants are encouraged to study by using a dictionary or by going to www.myspellit.com or www.spellingbee.com. Rules will be provided upon registration.
